Today we share with you the top 5 challenges facing Europe’s IT departments. According to data from the Vanson Bourne study, published by Claranet, which reveals that companies’ IT departments are facing significant challenges.
1. Security
Firstly, the report highlights security and compliance as the biggest technology challenge according to 50% of IT managers surveyed.
2. Efficiency and optimisation
After security, it is the IT efficiency and optimisation that European companies are facing, which was mentioned by 46% of respondents.
3. Incorporation of new technologies
The third challenge relates to incorporating and integrating new technologies efficiently into operations. This is a challenge for 41% of IT managers.
4. Mobility and BYOD
This is followed by mobility and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) at 40%. It reports that workplaces are relying less and less on traditional desktops and equipment, with workers tending to use their own devices for work.
5. 24×7 maintenance
The latest challenge is 24×7 maintenance, pressure from stakeholders and the constant emergence of new technologies. According to 39% of respondents, these increase the complexity of the IT department’s role.
Conclusions
According to the report, “IT departments in Europe are facing more challenges than a year ago. The reason is probably due to the increased criticality and complexity of the IT department’s work, which directly impacts on the growth of Shadow IT, the lack of skills and the speed at which business is changing.
However, the study says that IT departments believe the challenges will diminish over the next five years. However, security will continue to be the biggest technology challenge in the medium to long term. “Companies will need to be very vigilant to changes in legislation and new cybersecurity threats as they store, process and analyse more and more data”.
